Summary
The David Syme Research Prize has been awarded annually by the University of Melbourne since 1906. It recognises the best original work in physics, chemistry, biology or geology conducted in Australia in the preceeding two years, the selection being made by a committee of the Faculty of Science. The Prize was initiated in 1904 with a bequest from newspaper proprietor David Syme to establish such a prize.
