Summary

John Dunlop Millen ASTC MIEAust was a respected mining engineer and general manager of Mount Bischoff Tin Mining Company at its smelter works in Launceston from 1904 and its mine at Waratah, Tasmania from 1906 to 1919. He was elected a Senator for Tasmania from 1919 until 1938. During that period he was a Member of the Joint Committee on Public Accounts (1920-1925); Member of the Wireless Agreement Committee 1921-1922; Chairman of the Royal Commission on National Insurance 1923-1927; and was the Government Director, Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Limited.

He was also very active within the engineering profession, and served as a Councillor of the Institution of Engineers Australia, and was its national President in 1924.
