Summary

Established in 1977 the Tasmanian Fisheries Development Authority (1977 - 1985) served a key role in Lutruwita (Tasmanian) aquaculture, including research and management of fishing and fish products. The Department of Agriculture [II] (1911 - 1989) had been home to the previous government entity with a focus on aquaculture and fisheries, the Sea Fisheries Advisory Board (1941 - 1976). Prior to the Sea Fisheries Advisory Board (1941 - 1976) there had been a series of commissions and board to manage and explore aquaculture in Lutruwita (Tasmania). Indigenous Australians had, and continue to have, aquaculture management techniques that extend back far earlier than those of any Tasmanian government departments.
