Summary
The Bird Observers Club was formed in 1905 by a group of members of the Australasian Ornithologists' Union with the view of complementing the role of the Union by giving priority to field ornithology and holding regular meetings. The Club suffered a decline during WWI and was revived in 1927. Between 1991 and 2007 the Club was known as the Bird Observers Club of Australia. In 2007 the name of the Club was changed again to Bird Observation and Conservation Australia to reflect its greater involvement in conservation issues. The journal Australian bird watcher (later Australian field ornithology) was published by the Club from 1959.
