Summary

The Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006) was established in 1998 when the Department of Environment and Land Management (1993 - 1998) merged with the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries (1993 - 1998). Some of the agencies that sat within the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006) included the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (1828 - ), the Agricultural, Silvicultural and Veterinary Chemicals Council (1995 - ), Rivers and Water Supply Commission (1957 -2011), and the Veterinary Board of Tasmania (1918 - ). In 2006 the environment functions of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006) were amalgamated with tourism functions from the Department of State Development (1998 - 2002) to form the Department of Tourism, Arts and the Environment (2006 - 2011). What remained of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006) was renamed the Department of Primary Industries and Water (2006 - 2009).
