Summary

Margaret Davies is a herpetologist whose research focussed on the taxonomy and systematics of the frogs of the Australo/Papuan region, and on their osteology. She published over 120 papers, including descriptions of 34 new species, particularly in the genus Uperoleia. For nearly 30 years she was on the faculty of the University of Adelaide. Davies was President of the Australian Society of Herpetologists from 1990 to 1991. She was also active in the Royal Societies of both South Australia and Tasmania, holding executive office and for long periods editing their respective journals.
