Summary

William Cooke studied chemistry and metallurgy at University of Adelaide and received one of the first DSc degrees the University bestowed. Cooke remained loyal to the University of Adelaide and returned there to lecture after completing studies in England. He spent 43 years teaching at the University and was eventually appointed Reader in Chemistry. Cooke was a foundation member of the Australian Chemical Institute and served the South Australian Branch in executive positions for at least twenty years. He was elected Fellow in 1944 and also became a Fellow of London's Institute of Fuel (FIF).
