Summary

The Department of Mines and Energy (1977 - 1997) is the successor department to the Department of Mines (1894 - 1977), whose name was altered to reflect an increased focus on finite energy resources such as uranium, coal and oil. The Department of Mines and Energy (1977 - 1997) was still responsible for the regulation of mining in South Australia like its predecessor. In 1997 the Department of Mines and Energy (1977 - 1997) was dissolved and its functions transferred into the Department for Primary Industries (1992 - 1997) which was subsequently renamed the Department for Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (1997 - 2011) or PIRSA [I] for short.
