Summary

The Central Board of Health was established in 1873 and focused on what might now be called public health. The Central Board of Health was responsible for vaccinations, management and prevention of infectious disease outbreaks, regulation of slaughterhouses, waste disposal and drains amongst other things. In 1951 the Central Board of Health became part of the Department of Public Health (1951 - 1978).
