The Industrial Engineering Prize was established in 1970, by the Council of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

The award was made for a paper by members of the Institution, published in the Journal of the Institution or Transactions, that advanced the knowledge of industrial engineering practice.

Papers submitted for the award were judged by the Papers and Publications Committee of the Council of the Institution, with guidance from the National Committee on Management and Industrial Engineering (Standing Committee on Management and Industrial Engineering from 1976).
