Summary
Vladimir Gurarii was a mathematician whose main interests were numerical modelling and Fournier series. After enduring a difficult childhood, he enrolled at the V. N. Karazin Kharkov National University, Ukraine, achieving his doctorate in 1961 with a thesis on harmonic analysis of weighted space. In 1964 he took a job at the Institute of Chemical Physics in Chernogolovka, Russia, soon becoming Head of Mathematics at the Institute. Gurarii came to Australia in 2000. For 17 years he was Professorial Fellow in Mathematics at Swinburne University of Technology where he continued his research.
