Summary

The Public Health Department of Western Australia was established in 1911 after the 1906 amalgamation of the Medical Department [1] (1850 - 1906) into the Central Board of Health (1886 - 1911). The Central Board of Health (1886 - 1911) was not a department but a statutory authority. The establishment of the Public Health Department of Western Australia (1911 - 1984) under the 1911 Public Health Act marked a significant administrative change in the management and provision of public health and medical services in Western Australia.
