The reports of this Committee had an impact of the practice of anaesthesia world-wide. Henderson served on this committee for over 50 years, including as Chairman from 1975 to 1987. In addition he was involved in a number of committees related to hospital standards. He was active in professional organisations, being Dean of the Faculty of Anaesthetics of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, from 1984 to 1986, and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists from its foundation in 1992.
