Summary
Keith Crook was a geologist whose research was in the tectonic development of sedimentary basins and in marine geology. His areas of study were in near Tumut in New South Wales and Papua New Guinea. With students and staff from the Australian National University (ANU) he coordinated the mapping of a large area around Eden and Twofold Bay on the N.S.W. coast. Crook taught at the ANU for over 30 years before taking early retirement in 1992. He then became Science Program Director of the Undersea Laboratory at the University of Hawai'i before returning to A.N.U. in 2004 as a Visiting Fellow. In 1983 Crook was awarded the Clarke Medal by the Royal Society of New South Wales. The prehistoric, armoured lobe-finned fish discovered near Eden was named Edenopteron keithcrooki in his honour.
