Summary

Andy Cole was a former Dean of the Faculty of Science (1975-1977) and Head of the Department of Physical and Organic Chemistry at the University of Western Australia (1971-1973; 1987-1989). Overall, he was a member of the University for forty-seven years. Cole was also involved in numerous national and international scientific bodies and societies, participating in many forums and taskforces. His contribution to infrared spectroscopy and its application to molecular structure determination was recognised by being awarded Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 1974; an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Western Australia; Honorary Fellowships of the Chemical Institutes of New Zealand and Canada.
