Summary

The Zoological Board of Victoria was established in 1937, taking control of the management of the Melbourne Zoological Gardens. In 1975 the Board established the Open Range Zoo at Werribee and in 1978 it took control of Healesville Sanctuary. The Zoological Parks and Gardens Board took control of the functions of the Zoological Board of Victoria in 1996.
