Summary

In April 1975 the Department of the Environment [I] took the place of the Department of Environment and Conservation. Amongst the Department's responsibilities were the protection and use of water resources, the conservation of wildlife and national parks. After less than a year of operation, the Department was abolished, the Department of Environment, Housing and Community Development taking its place.
