- Abstract
This paper discusses the quantitative measurements of rainfall by radar, with particular reference to the estimation of rainfall over small catchments. Some advantages and disadvantages of using radar for rainfall estimations are outlined, together with the uncertainty in rainfall rate assessment and inherent inaccuracy in the analysis technique. An analysis of a rainstorm is included at the end of the paper to illustrate the comparison between radar and rain gauge rainfall results. Some comments on the comparison of rainfall totals from radar and rain gauges are also made.
