Abstract

This year's Medal has been presented to Mr. A. K. Hacke,
AMIEAust, formerly Chief Engineer at the B.H.P. Steel Works,
Newcastle.

Mr. Hacke has been with the B.H.P. Co. for 39 years, commencing in 1911 at Broken Hill. He was transferred to Newcastle in 1913 as Chief Draughtsman for the projected steel works, and became Acting Chief Mechanical Engineer in 1919, and Chief Mechanical Engineer one year later. In 1935 he was appointed Chief Engineer for the B.H.P. Co. Ltd., from which position he retired in 1948. He is, however, still active as a consultant with the Company.
