Abstract

Problems in connection with the application of capacitors to existing distribution systems are discussed and, in particular, a method which has been developed for the reduction of excessive harmonic currents in capacitors is described. Details are given of a 7,200 kVAr capacitor installation recently completed by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. The design, construction and testing of capacitors are discussed, and suggestions are made for the preparation of a purchasing specification.
