Francis Lord worked for the Commonwealth Solar Observatory during World War II, assisting in the work of the Optical Munitions Panel. He set up the optical workshop and made a wide range of lenses and prisms.
Born Czechoslovakia, 16 September 1916. Studied optics in Paris. Optical factory, Czechoslovakia; fled via Rumania to Britain and then Australia; British Optical Company, Sydney; optical workshop, Commonwealth Solar Observatory, working for the Optical Munitions Panel.
