Summary
The R. K. Murphy Medal has been awarded by the Industrial Chemistry Division of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute since 1993. It recognises outstanding achievement by a Member of the Institute in process chemistry, chemical engineering or related areas in the chemical industry (including commercial or marketing functions), and predominately of Australian origin. The Medal may be awarded to an individual or a small team, and to a person who has acted in an advisory role to government over a long period. It is presented at the annual Chemeca conference. Robert Murphy, who was President of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute in 1935 - 1936, established Australia's first diploma course in chemical engineering at the Sydney Technological College.
