Summary

The Association of Physicians of Australasia was founded in Melbourne in 1930 as an organisation for mutual support. By 1934 the Association had determined that it should be an examination and executive body for the medical profession, setting professional standards, and stimulating medical education and research. Its constitution was modelled on that of the Royal College of Physicians, London. Premises were acquired in 1937 in Macquarie St, Sydney. In 1938 the Association was incorporated and the first examinations held. In 1938 the Association became the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
