Abstract

The operating cycle of the lithium bromide-water absorption refrigerator is analysed with respect to the temperature of the main components and two performance factors, the heat exchanger effectiveness and the generator approach to equilibrium. It is shown that the machine should operate satisfactorily over a range of generating temperatures such as would be available from a solar collector. Design requirements for the pump to start the refrigerator at a low temperature are discussed. Energy storage as needed by most solar devices can be provided by accumulating liquid refrigerant at times of high insolation.
