- Description
This paper, No. 281, by John Gurner Burnell, MC BE AMIEAust, originated in the Melbourne Division of the Institution.
- Abstract
Available experimental data are summarised.
The subject of end contractions is fully discussed and definite conclusions reached as tic the true .values of same for rectangular weirs.
Comparison is made of the discharges given by a modified formula of Hamilton Smith, Junr., with all available data, very satisfactory agreement being shown for rectangular suppressed weirs of any proportions.
A summary is given in Appendix I. of the results obtained with short weirs by Steward and Longwell at Boise, in 1911.
Appendix II. draws attention to the recent work of Schoder and Turner on suppressed weirs, and makes available, in convenient form, certain of their results.
