- Abstract
Experimental investigations have been made to determine the sensitivity of the drag coefficient of building models to variations of frontal and side aspect ratios relative to the wind direction.
Drag coefficients were obtained from drag balance measurements. In three of the six models tested, surface pressures were also measured by manometer tappings to provide a check on the accuracy of the drag balance determinations.
Results Show that drag coefficients for simple prismatic models are sensitive to variations in the frontal aspect ratio but are quite insensitive to variations in side aspect ratios over the normal range of interest in building construction. This is contrary to the accepted codes of practice concerning wind loadings in which the side aspect ratio is adopted as the criterion.
