- Abstract
This paper discusses the behaviour of a railway vehicle on curved track, and analyses the forces exerted between the flanged wheels and the rails. A solution of these forces by calculation is considered, using a modification of an already established method.
Particular reference is made to a method of model analysis devised to demonstrate the phenomena of a vehicle negotiating a curved track and to measure the lateral forces exerted on the rails. Tests made with a model confirm the important effect of friction forces on the equilibrium of a railway vehicle on curved track, and indicate the probable nature of contact between wheels and rails.
