Abstract

The Council of The Institution has decided that the second award of the R. W. Chapman Medal shall be made to Mr. R. J. Dumas, ME MIEAust, and to Mr. V. C. Munt, BA BE AMIEAust, for their paper entitled "The construction of the Canning Dam, Western Australia". This paper was presented on 6th April, 1936, at the Annual Engineering Conference of The Institution held at Perth, Western Australia. The following papers, which were also considered, received special commendation by the adjudicators:-
"The distribution of stresses in fillet welds" - by Mr. D. V. Isaacs, MCE AMIEAust. (For text of paper see: The Journal, Vol.8, No.8, Aug 1936, pp.286-294);
"New principles in roof design" - by Mr. J. A. Laing, MCE MIEAust. (For text of paper see: The Journal, Vol.8, No.6, Jun 1936, pp.228-232)
