Abstract

An experimental study is presented of the strength of I- section columns with slender cross sections, fabricated from high strength steel plate. Geometric imperfections and residual strains due to welding are measured and the effect of eccentric loading is investigated. A design method is proposed which accounts for the columns. The test results are compared with the proposed design method and the existing design method of AS1250-1981.
