Abstract

A questionnaire survey of building and construction companies has been conducted in the field of new management methods for the construction industry. Analysis of the responses has given guidance on the areas in which scope exists for innovation, the way in which new management methods are detected, and the preferred content and presentation of new methods for the industry. Significant scope for new approaches is perceived in the fields of site cost control, cost estimating, and project planning and scheduling. First contact with new management methods is usually made through journal papers, but library access to such journals is rather limited. Firm views are held within the industry on the preferred content and presentation of new approaches. The results of this survey should prove valuable to those involved with the development of new management and the continuing education of personnel in the construction industry.
