Abstract

Sloping wire and inverted vee aerials are described which, by a phasing of the travelling wave excitation, operate in a mode which yields a major lobe at a high angle with respect to the earth plane. A simple array based on two such phased aerials has discrimination against interference radiation characterized by a lower arrival angle. Intended initially for short-range, H.F. communication at frequencies between 2 Mc/s and 6 Mc/s, the design procedures and experience with a 5-Mc/s prototype array erected in Victoria in 1965 are discussed.
