Abstract

During a discussion on electricity tariffs at Science House, Sydney, in May, 1934, members of The Institution expressed the hope that the various supply authorities in Australia would agree on a common method of calculating their costs of supply to various classes of consumers. It was felt that, in this way, some degree of uniformity might later be reached also in the methods of charging. In the Electricity Department of the Municipal Council of Sydney a method of calculation was worked out, some years ago, by the Distribution Superintendent, Mr. C. J. Craggs, AMIEAust. This method has since been developed and improved by Mr. Craggs and the author; it has shown itself to be workable and satisfactory in practice. It is felt, therefore, that a step forward will be taken by submitting this method as a concrete basis for discussion and the author has set out below the principles of this method, and worked out in detail its application to a somewhat simplified set of figures.
