Engineering Branch of the Division, on 19th October, 1948.The authors are officers of the Engines and Fuels Section, Division of Aeronautics, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
- Abstract
The thermodynamics of the simple constant pressure gas turbine cycle and its variants are briefly discussed, and the factors which have led to the recent rapid development of the gas turbine are pointed out. The advantages and limitations of the prime mover are considered, and its application to locomotives, marine propulsion, electric power generation and road vehicles is described, with particular reference to the present state of development and the prospect of progress in the future. The importance of developing means of burning solid fuels in the gas turbine is emphasised.
