Eastern New Guinea, with heavy rainfall, high mountain ranges and rivers falling within a short distance to low lying country has great hydro-electric power potential, but owing to lack of major power demand l1ttle investigation or development has been carried out. This paper covers preliminary investigation of schemes with potential capacity in excess of 5,000,000 kW.
