Abstract

This is a copious extract of a paper read before the recent Australian Congress of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Sydney's narrow crowded roadways made it imperative for the Government to devise an underground electric scheme for the transportation of traffic, and the proposals of Mr. Bradfield were accepted . The route of the proposed railway, which includes a bridge of 1600 feet span, centre to centre, across the Sydney Harbour is described.
