Abstract

The paper examines the deflected shape of a pile acted on by horizontal forces and moments, taking into account the stiffness of the pile and the "subgrade reaction" of the surrounding soil. Stiffness Coefficients are derived which are then used to analyse any combination of vertical and
inclined piles under the action of lateral and vertical forces.
Suggestions are made for further investigation into variations of soil properties, the effect on those properties of grouping of piles and the allowable limits for lateral displacement in the soil.
