- Description
Chairman's Address by R. Lawson, MIEAust, to the Sydney Division of the Institution, at Sydney, on Thursday, 26th March, 1931.
- Abstract
The problem of furnishing a broadcast service to a wide and sparsely populated area - Australia's problem - is capable of solution along two main lines, but, as this matter will shortly be dealt with in a paper to be read before the Melbourne Division of the Institution, no further reference is necessary here. It is sufficient to say that, for the present, it has been decided to operate the national service with a number of main stations in or near the capital cities and to cover the smaller centres of population by relay stations which will take the greater part of their programme from the main stations, but with certain periods devoted to local news and important events.
In addition to the National Broadcasting Service there is a demand for another service, and this is met by the "B" class stations, of which there is now a large number throughout the Commonwealth. A list of the stations licensed to operate in New South Wales is given in the appendix.
