The paper reviews, perforce briefly, the more important technical advances which have marked the progress of American methods in transmission and distribution during the past few years. In some cases the designs employed are adaptations of principles or practice developed overseas; in others they are entirely American in their immediate origin. The object of the short technical descriptions of equipment is to facilitate comment on the essential achievements involved rather than to attempt complete detail.
