- Abstract
In this paper the author, who is Minister for Works and Local Government, New South Wales, traces the development of Port Kembla from its beginning as an open roadstead in 1898 to the port of 1938 handling over 1,200,000 tons of cargo annually. The rapid growth of industries, the expansion of port facilities and electricity undertaking to meet trade requirements, and the increased local government activity, necessitated by the growing industrial and residential areas, are also traversed.
