Abstract: One of the considerations arising from the modern use of buildings of cultural and heritage significance, or indeed any other existing older buildings, is the problem of their fire protection and the protection of their occupants. This paper refers to such protection in general and specific terms, and discusses the behaviour during fire exposures of certain building materials and elements of building construction often found in existing older buildings.
