Summary

Fenton Pillow was an applied mathematician who was most interested in continuum mechanics and viscous fluid flow. His research ranged over hydrodynamic stability, singular perturbation theory, diffusion of heat and circulation in fluid flow. After undertaking research at the Aeronautical and Engine Research Test Laboratory (later Aeronautical Research Laboratories) in Melbourne, Pillow held several university positions before becoming Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Queensland in 1964. He was active in the Australian Mathematical Society, being Vice-President from 1966 to 1969 and contributing to the editorship of the Society's Journal.
