Born Caulfield, Victoria, 3 September 1903. Educated University of Melbourne (BSc), Imperial College of Science and Technology, London (PhD) and Colorado School of Mines (ScD). Geologist 1928-43; Deputy Director, Geological Survey of Nigeria 1943-44; senior lecturer in geology, University of Melbourne 1945-49, Associate Professor 1949-65, Professor of Geology, 1965-?.
