Maxwell Whitten was Chief, CSIRO Division of Entomology 1981-1995. His interests include sustainable agriculture, small scale farming and biodiversity/conservation.
Born Moree, New South Wales, 29 March 1940. AM 1994. Educated University of Sydney (BSc (hons) 1962), University of Tasmania (PhD 1965) and Australian National University (BA 1974). Wheat Research Fellow, University of Tasmania 1963-65; Research Scientist, CSIRO Division of Entomology 1966-76; Professor of Genetics and Chairman, Department of Genetics, University of Melbourne 1976-81; Chief, CSIRO Division of Entomology 1981-95. Fellow, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering 1983; Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1993.
