Aubrey Stubbing Chalk was a bank manager with a good general knowledge of field ornithology, being particularly skilled at finding nests. He took an active part in the work of a number of natural history societies.

President, Bird Observers Club 1934-36, 1945; president, Field Naturalists Club of Victoria 1939-40, auditor 1930-57; treasurer, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1941-50, life member 1945; vice-president, Gould League of Bird Lovers.
