Summary
Raymond Frederick Finch was a chemist with the South Australian Engineering and Water Supply Department and became Senior Chemist in Charge of the Glenelg Sewage Treatment Works until his retirement. As residential suburbs encroached up to the boundaries of the works he was responsible for the beautification of the works area with expansive lawns and trees. Finch started as a Cadet with the Industrial Chemistry Department of the South Australian School of Mines and Industries (later South Australian Institute of Technology). He then moved to the Explosives factory in Maribyrnong and during World War II was appointed Chemist-in-Charge of the Cordite Section of Penfield Explosives factory, near Salisbury, UK.
