Summary
Gilbert Mac Arthur Goldfinch was educated at Tudor House and Sydney's Church of England Grammar School, then trained as an entomologist. He became an expert in moths, but also had an interest in shells. In 1905 he was a volunteer assistant at the Australian Museum and was later employed as a conchologist. Goldfinch also worked for Dalgety's, a merchant company dealing mainly in wool, from 1922-1934. Gilbert Goldfinch was secretary of the University Club (1934-1942) and a member (since 1912) and councillor (1925-1931) of the Linnaean Society of New South Wales.
