Henry Noyes, with his brother Edward, formed the successful engineering firm of Noyes Brothers Ltd in 1888. This firm was separately incorporated in New South Wales and Victoria in 1907, with Henry as governing director in Victoria, and Edward managing New South Wales. Henry took an active interested in mechanical and mining engineering, and was a recognised authority on steel, and was a member of the Iron and Steel Institute of Great Britain. He was also a member of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers and of the American Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

Under his direction the firm carried out large works, including electric lighting and railway construction. During the war he took an active part in recruiting, and paid a special visit to England to consult Sir John Monash in reference to that work. He gave large gifts to the Red Cross movement, and at his own cost provided complete X-ray outfit for use in hospital work. Henry was regarded as a high authority upon commercial procedures and finance, and during his business career was associated with some of the leading engineering firms in England and America.
