John Callow, ME BComm FIEAust, was System Design Engineer, with the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority, from 1951.
<p>'Mr. Callow obtained his diploma at the Hobart Technical College in 1942, while employed in the Electrical Designs Branch of the Hydro-Electric Commission of Tasmania. Continuing his studies part-time at the University of Tasmania, he took the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce. In 1948. he joined the 220 kV transmission line design section of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria.<br />
In 1949 Mr. Callow was selected by the Department of Supply for overseas training and, after a few months with Long Range Weapons in South Australia; was sent to the United Kingdom for 2 years, during which time he studied power system analysis and design, and carried out research into switching transients. On returning to Australia in 1951, he transferred to the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority, where he is attached to the System Design Branch, Electrical and Mechanical Division. In 1953 he was awarded the degree of Master of Engineering for a thesis on 'Switching Transients'.<br />
