Paul Low is an inorganic chemist whose research has ranged widely over the synthesis and reactivity of metal-coordinated acetylide, vinylidenes and carbon chains, and the structure and dynamics of pheneylene (ethynylene) oligomers. More recent studies have included the design of compounds to explore structure-property relationships within single-molecule and 'large area' molecular electronic systems, and electron-transfer processes and conformational dynamics within mixed-valence complexes. After 15 years at the University of Durham, United Kingdom, in 2013 Low was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the University of Western Australia. Low has received a number of awards for his research, including the H. F. Smith Memorial Award from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, and the Burrows Award from the Institute's inorganic Chemistry Division.
