It was founded in 1987 as the Australasian Cave Management Association, the name being changed in 1989. Aims of the Association include to: advocate for responsible management of cave and karst resources; develop , initiatives and standards; facilitate public awareness, and promote interaction amongst those interested in cave and karst management. Membership includes managers, cave guides, scientists and cavers interested in karst management and interpretation. The Association holds regular conferences, the proceedings of which have been published; and maintains contact with related international organisations.
